‘Old Meets New’ Victorian Home

‘Old Meets New’ Victorian Home

The design brief for this project was to create an elegant home that incorporated modern elements of design into a period property, whilst retaining and enhancing the many beautiful original features. Creating a perfect marriage of old and new.

The kitchen was the perfect place to add a modern feel with the use of materials including granite worktops, sleek chrome taps and pewter door handles. The design has also been sympathetic to the period and style of the property with incorporation of a range cooker, hand painted cupboards, under-mounted sinks, slate tiled flooring and exposed brick features on the walls which has been mirrored in the exposed chimney breast in the dining room. A particularly lovely feature of the kitchen are the bifold doors and use of the slate tiles from the kitchen all the way through to the patio to bring the outside in and maximise the feeling of space.

This theme has been extended to the rest of the house using modern oak furniture and leather chairs in the dining room, to coordinate with the original exposed oak flooring and the incorporation of a feature beautiful wood burning stove in the large chimney breast. The bathroom has a period feel to it with the style of furniture chosen, including freestanding bath and sink unit, whilst also creating a timeless modern look with the use of chrome floor mounted taps and walk-in rain shower.
